From the Icefields chapter introduction:

"Icefields is the most forbidding environment out of the ones I describe in this project and definitely the most complex to spend time travelling through. Icefields are extreme environments and the logistical preparation to survive in these locations is such that one's encounter with this landscape can only be brief. Over the years, I have had the privilege to spend a considerable amount of time in this type of landscape, and I find my mind often returns to these places, longing to go back. Many polar explorers I have read about seem to feel the same way about their expeditions to those areas. The land leaves an impression on you that compels you to return. However, for most, interaction with this landscape will remain a fleeting encounter, magical, then impossible to forget."
